Root (Muladhara) Chakra

The Root Chakra (Muladhara) is the first chakra out of the 7 main chakras. This chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is the chakra that has to deal with the densest grade of manifestation and the basis of life. When this chakra is balanced you are grounded, secure, safe, and content in life. When this chakra is imbalanced you might feel underground, fearful, insecure and confused in life.

The symbol of this chakra has 4 lotus petals and is blood red in color. Each petal corresponds to the psychological states of great joy, natural pleasure, delight in controlling passions, and blissfulness in concentration leading to meditation. It channels Earth’s energy upward through your feet to your chakra.

The meaning of this chakra is about supporting the root, which means: being one with yourself, understanding how to express love and accept it, being able to be yourself and be one with the earth, and knowing you are rooted to the earth through all things. This chakra brings the energy in from the earth and fuels all the other chakras with its energy.

Here is a section from the book ‘The Chakra Bible’ by Patricia Mercier:

“It’s not so much what you do that is important as how you feel, and with what sentiments you act. Recognize you are a spiritual being born with a potential for growth into the light of spirit."

Here are some ways to balance this chakra:

1) Reiki is a great way to cleanse, recharge and help balance

2) Yoga and meditation

3) Crystals

4) Essential oils
